The importance of soft floors in the parlour

Trials by Batchelor Enterprises Ltd – UK distributors for Kraiburg dairy flooring have shown that there is a requirement for soft floors in modern parlour designs, especially rapid exit and rotary parlours.

These parlour designs create an unnatural movement for the cow, by having to turn 90 degrees or more in a restricted area. This movement on concrete can quickly cause several problems ie, chamfering of the outer horn and white line disease.

Kraiburg dairy flooring ensures that cows will be able to turn sharply without causing pressure or abrasion to the hoof wall.

The hoof wall has to carry around 60% of the animals weight and is supported by the heel or bulb part of the claw. High yielding cows often suffer from energy deficiencies and the cow has to mobilise its body fats, also from the heel of the claw which decreases the shock absorbing properties of the heel. This makes the hoof wall even more important when walking on hard surfaces.

The soft dairy flooring is also highly suited to older parlours where the concrete finish has become very worn and slippery. The installation can easily be done between milkings and the cows soon return to a confident manner where they were previously nervous.

Testimonial from R.L. Clapp & Sons
West Town Farm, Somerset
500 cows – Rotary Parlour

The Kraiburg rubber was installed approx 12 months after the new parlour. The cow flow on and off has improved and the incidence of white line disease has decreased dramatically.

It has made all the difference to the unit.

Testimonial from L.E. Simmond & Partners
Knighton Farm

180 cows – Herringbone Parlour
The chequer plate and concrete had become very slippery over the years. The Kraiburg rubber has completely re-juvenated the parlour floor. The cows no longer slip, they are at ease again now when standing and it makes a tidy finish, which is easy to clean.
